My Sister's Keeper
My Sister's Keeper was launched in February 1992 by Black on Black love. My Sister's Keeper's, one of the first complete aftercare programs in the state of Illinois to help women, who has been released from the correctional system, lead productive lives. Over the years MSK has successfully ushered hundreds of formerly incarcerated women back into society as changed women through its comprehensive prevention program. MSK is funded in part by the Cook County Board of Commissioners and supported by private donations from the civic and business community
The objective of the program is to serve as a viable and visible Human & Supportive Services entity that aids formerly incarcerated women to positively reintegrate into society.
Our Services include:
- Drug Education
- Relapse Prevention
- Spiritual Enrichment
- Parenting Skills
- Domestic Violence workshops
- Life Skills
- Literacy/ Education/Training
- Computer Classes
- Job Readiness/ Employment Opportunities
- Volunteer Opportunities
- Mentoring
- Cultural Enrichment Activities
- Anger Management
- Incentives
- Internship
- Graduation upon Program Completion
We receive referrals via the courts, linkages with shelters, other agencies, i.e., HRDI, South Suburban Council, Cornell Interventions, etc.
Much needed funding will help us to impact some critical needs facing our clients, i.e. employment, housing and mental health care. Subsequent to receiving the services that MSK provides, the women become productive, law-abiding assets instead of liabilities to their community.
Upon acceptance into the My Sister’s Keeper program, you will receive bus passes for transportation to and from the program.
